This segment of my blog is inspired by Victoria Grace Howell Word definition that we get as part of her weekly Writerly Bundles and by me when I come across words I have a vague sense of the meaning but not a complete sense of the word.
I often come upon words that I either haven't heard of before I can't remember the meaning. These posts are for those words and in hopes of helping others remember the meanings and introduce them to words they may not know.
This weeks word is ...
Rodomontade
Where I Found It
This is a word I found on dictionary.com (which I regularly use) it was likely a word of the day. In my notes next to the word I have put that I obviously either liked the sound or meaning of the word.
The Definition/s
1. vainglorious boasting or bragging; pretentious, blustering talk.
2. Bragging
3. to boast; brag; talk big
An Example Sentence
Example sentence: Keira's old school was known for being rodomontade in their sport of hockey.
My Thoughts
I like this word, I really like this word. It's definitely something you wouldn't hear everyday but I think it is an excellent substitute to describe someone as boastful. For some reason this word really makes me smile. Not all words do that. I love the way it sounds. It almost sounds like something foreign or fantastical. I still have a smile while thinking about this word. It's weird really. I've never really felt this way about a word before.
I feel vaguely like I have heard of this word before?! BUT LIKE SUPER VAGUELY because it still seems really unfamiliar. BUT COOL. It kind of reminds me of the word "rude" there at the beginning, which fits into the bragging meaning. heh.
